The Spanish Technological Platform for Fisheries and Aquaculture (PTEPA)<\/strong> is a non-profit association whose primary purpose, as set forth in its bylaws, is to promote industrial research, technological development, innovation, and the implementation of R&D&i projects<\/strong> in the fisheries and aquaculture sector, including the processing and marketing<\/strong> of its products.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The main objective of PTEPA<\/strong> is to bring together all stakeholders<\/strong> within the fisheries and aquaculture sector, aligning and coordinating actions and information related to the technologies to which their efforts are devoted.<\/p>\n

The intention is that the primary beneficiaries<\/strong> of the association\u2019s achievements should be society as a whole<\/strong>, in addition to its members, both through the social and environmental benefits<\/strong> generated and through the strengthening of the sector<\/strong> that is expected to result.<\/p>\n

In this way, a common national strategy for research, development, and innovation<\/strong> is established, positioning national fisheries and aquaculture companies in a competitive standing at the global level<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Spanish Technological Platforms<\/strong> were created with the overarching objective of bringing together and coordinating actions and information<\/strong> related to sectoral technological development and innovation, thereby creating a strategic research agenda<\/strong> in sectors of significant economic and social relevance.<\/p>\n

In some cases, the Spanish Platforms were established to support European platforms<\/strong>, while in other cases, where no such European structures existed, they were set up as mechanisms for guidance and structuring<\/strong> of the sector at the national level. In doing so, they provide strategic recommendations in R&D&i<\/strong> and serve as a reference forum<\/strong> for Public Administrations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

In both contexts, the Spanish Technological Platforms emerged as key elements of Spain\u2019s participation<\/strong> in the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Union (FP7)<\/strong>. At the national level, the Platforms are overseen by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities<\/strong>, through the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI)<\/strong>, whose National Innovation Strategy<\/strong> defines the Government\u2019s policy framework on innovation, contributing to the transformation of Spain\u2019s production model<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The sustainability, growth, and competitiveness<\/strong> of the Platforms depend entirely on their usefulness to the sector they serve<\/strong>, and on the improvements derived from medium- and long-term technological and research advancements<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Establishing a work program<\/strong> and a consensual management structure<\/strong> required nearly two years of preparatory work prior to the official launch of the Platform. By the end of 2007, a Governing Body<\/strong> representative of the sector was constituted, beginning its work with the support of the General Secretariat for Maritime Fisheries<\/strong> (currently, the General Secretariat for Fisheries<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

This initial group held its first official meeting<\/strong> on December 17, 2007<\/strong>, at the General Secretariat for Maritime Fisheries, where a work plan<\/strong> for the Platform was established.<\/p>\n

The following entities attended this foundational meeting<\/strong>, forming the first Board of Directors<\/strong> of PTEPA: ANFACO-CECOPESCA<\/strong> (currently ANFACO-CYTMA<\/strong>), OPP<\/strong> (Organization of Fish Farming Producers), Ariema Energ\u00eda y Medio Ambiente<\/strong>, Fundaci\u00f3n INNOVAMAR<\/strong>, FEDEPESCA<\/strong>, ANMAPE<\/strong> (National Association of Fish Wholesalers), APROMAR<\/strong>, ARVI-INNOVAPESCA<\/strong>, CEPESCA<\/strong>, CEPPT<\/strong> (Cluster of Fishing Companies in Third Countries), and CETPEC<\/strong> (Technological Center for Fisheries).<\/p>\n

Since then, PTEPA has been established as the only meeting forum<\/strong> encompassing all stakeholders involved in R&D&i in Fisheries and Aquaculture<\/strong>, including the Processing and Marketing<\/strong> of their products.<\/p>\n
