EurOCEAN is a forum for meeting and debate between marine and fisheries research institutions, stakeholders and management institutions from Europe and the Member States.
The session held in Vigo on 10 October addressed aspects that are so important for the fisheries and aquaculture sector, such as ecosystem-based management (EBM), integrated ecosystem assessment (IEA), and the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in maritime and marine research and management.
The first session concluded with a debate on the possible impact of pollution from the presence of medicines in seawater, coastal resilience and “blue carbon”.
On Wednesday 11 October, all the co-organisers of EurOCEAN 2023 presented and signed the Vigo Declaration: “Speaking with one voice to achieve the Single Ocean we want” which calls for integrated land-sea policies and management, sustained and better coordinated ocean observation and greater citizen engagement.
