About Us
The main objective of PTEPA is to bring together all stakeholders within the fisheries and aquaculture sector, aligning and coordinating actions and information related to the technologies to which their efforts are devoted.
The intention is that the primary beneficiaries of the association’s achievements should be society as a whole, in addition to its members, both through the social and environmental benefits generated and through the strengthening of the sector that is expected to result.
In this way, a common national strategy for research, development, and innovation is established, positioning national fisheries and aquaculture companies in a competitive standing at the global level.
What is a Technology Platform?
The Spanish Technological Platforms were created with the overarching objective of bringing together and coordinating actions and information related to sectoral technological development and innovation, thereby creating a strategic research agenda in sectors of significant economic and social relevance.
In some cases, the Spanish Platforms were established to support European platforms, while in other cases, where no such European structures existed, they were set up as mechanisms for guidance and structuring of the sector at the national level. In doing so, they provide strategic recommendations in R&D&i and serve as a reference forum for Public Administrations.
In both contexts, the Spanish Technological Platforms emerged as key elements of Spain’s participation in the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Union (FP7). At the national level, the Platforms are overseen by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, through the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI), whose National Innovation Strategy defines the Government’s policy framework on innovation, contributing to the transformation of Spain’s production model.
The sustainability, growth, and competitiveness of the Platforms depend entirely on their usefulness to the sector they serve, and on the improvements derived from medium- and long-term technological and research advancements.

Founders of the PTEPA
Establishing a work program and a consensual management structure required nearly two years of preparatory work prior to the official launch of the Platform. By the end of 2007, a Governing Body representative of the sector was constituted, beginning its work with the support of the General Secretariat for Maritime Fisheries (currently, the General Secretariat for Fisheries).
This initial group held its first official meeting on December 17, 2007, at the General Secretariat for Maritime Fisheries, where a work plan for the Platform was established.
The following entities attended this foundational meeting, forming the first Board of Directors of PTEPA: ANFACO-CECOPESCA (currently ANFACO-CYTMA), OPP (Organization of Fish Farming Producers), Ariema Energía y Medio Ambiente, Fundación INNOVAMAR, FEDEPESCA, ANMAPE (National Association of Fish Wholesalers), APROMAR, ARVI-INNOVAPESCA, CEPESCA, CEPPT (Cluster of Fishing Companies in Third Countries), and CETPEC (Technological Center for Fisheries).
Since then, PTEPA has been established as the only meeting forum encompassing all stakeholders involved in R&D&i in Fisheries and Aquaculture, including the Processing and Marketing of their products.
