Internal structure
The Platform’s structure is designed to facilitate its own governance while ensuring effective coordination of activities aimed at promoting research, development and innovation within the sector.
Technical Working Groups:
They aim to analyze and assess the current state of the sector, identifying the technological and strategic pathways Spain must follow to strengthen its position in fisheries and aquaculture.
Their ultimate goal is to establish a Strategic Research Agenda and promote targeted actions addressing key technological challenges in fisheries and aquaculture R&D&i.
Fisheries: This area addresses the assessment and sustainable management of fishery resources, marine pollution, environmental impact, and issues related to traceability and quality. It also encompasses work areas such as fishing technologies, efficiency and energy transition, and occupational safety.
Aquaculture: This area addresses the various aspects and stages of farming, ranging from genetics, physiology, and reproduction to nutrition, quality, and animal welfare. It also includes topics related to traceability, environmental impact, as well as improvements and new technological developments in both land-based and marine facilities.
Processing Technologies: Innovation across the seafood processing chain, with a strong focus on sustainability, environmental responsibility, quality, traceability, and food safety.
Commercialization: This area covers all aspects of the distribution and commercialization of seafood products, highlighting the importance of quality and traceability, marketing, ICTs, as well as environmental impact, efficiency, and energy transition.
Grupos de Trabajo Técnico:
Tienen por objeto la realización de análisis y estudios de la situación actual del sector, que determinen el desarrollo tecnológico y estratégico que debe seguir España para posicionarse adecuadamente a todos los niveles en temas de pesca y acuicultura, definiendo la Agenda Estratégica de Investigación y actuaciones puntuales que apoyen retos tecnológicos prioritarios en I+D+i pesquera y acuícola.
Fisheries: Addresses the evaluation and management of fishing resources and aspects related to sustainability, traceability and quality. In addition, it encompasses work areas of environmental impact and technologies related to fishing activity at sea and in the port, energy saving and safety measures.
Aquaculture: Works on the different aspects of cultivation such as reproduction and physiology of the species, location and necessary facilities, environmental implications, etc.
Transformation Technologies: Technologies relating to the seafood transformation chain including environmental and sustainability perspectives, quality aspects, traceability and food safety.
Marketing: It encompasses all aspects of the distribution and marketing of seafood products, highlighting the importance of quality and traceability, marketing, ICTs and the environment.
Governing Bodies
General Assembly
The General Assembly is the supreme governing body of the Platform, comprising all member entities.
Board of Directors
The Association is directed and managed by the Board of Directors, which is composed of the President, Vice President, Secretary, and a minimum of three Members. Only fee-paying members may form part of the Board of Directors.
The Board of Directors is responsible for ensuring compliance with the actions and objectives set forth by each of the Working Groups, directing the scientific and technical activities, as well as the economic and administrative management of the Platform. It is also tasked with fostering synergies among member entities.
Management Groups
Advisory Group
Its purpose is to establish a coordination plan among the different Administrations (regional and national), in agreement with sectoral associations and other related institutions operating in Spain.
Representative Group
Its purpose is to establish a coordination plan to enhance Spain’s position within intra-national and international institutions and organizations. It is composed of experts participating in international discussion forums related to fisheries and aquaculture R&D&i.
Technical Secretariat
Its mission is to provide support to the Technical Working Groups, governing bodies, and members of the Platform. The Secretariat participates in the meetings of the Working Groups, facilitating the exchange of information among them and ensuring the harmonization of criteria in the preparation of documents.
The Technical Secretariat is also responsible for membership management, the website, and the organization of dissemination events, among other activities.
In summary, the three main tasks of the Technical Secretariat are:
